Paid surveys can be described as internet-based surveys that are either incentivized or paid. A paid or incentivized online survey is a form of statistical questionnaire where the survey takers/members are offered either a monetary prize, usually entry into a sweepstakes scheme or some other small cash award, for answering one or more surveys from a particular company. In most cases, companies that offer online surveys do so because they believe that the information provided by survey participants will prove to be valuable to them and increase their profits. Common examples include market research, health care, and customer satisfaction studies. In fact, these types of studies have been used in the design of many of today's consumer products and services, including groceries, electronics, DVD players, and even certain types of clothing. Typically, when you sign up for a paid online surveys, you will receive an email with links to answer a set of questions about the particular product or service that you are reviewing. Sometimes, the company will ask you to provide your name and address, email address, phone number, and the city or county where you live. You will then be asked to fill out a short registration form, which typically requires you to select your gender, age, race, interests, favorite sports or other hobbies, favorite leisure activity, and family members and friends. After you complete the registration process, you will be asked to review a short survey that highlights your personal characteristics, preferences, and strengths. You will then be sent a link to further answer the survey. When you participate in paid surveys, you will receive an assortment of incentives or rewards. Some of these rewards may include redeemable points toward future purchases, coupons for goods and services you might like, gift certificates, or simply cash. In some instances, you may be required to input your contact information so that the company can send you future surveys offering free merchandise, gift cards, or other types of incentives. Your participation may also earn you a chance to win a certain amount of money. When you begin participating in paid online surveys, you will be asked to complete basic demographic information. This information is used to determine the likelihood that you will purchase a certain product or service, and to learn more about your habits. The companies involved in paying people for their opinions use various methods to calculate this type of information. They may ask you how often you spend money at a certain store, how often you buy something off of eBay, or other common purchasing habits. They will also ask if you are a smoker, drinker, if you have children, or if you are retired. Your answers to these questions will help the researchers understand more about the buying habits of the general population. The more that you contribute to paid online surveys, the more that you will be rewarded. Sometimes, the rewards are in the form of cash or other merchandise, and sometimes, they are in the form of free services, or discounts from other participating companies. Sometimes, these rewards can be traded in for more points toward the purchase of a particular product paid surveys. Other times, your reward may be simply entry into a drawing, or an actual gift card. If your participation consists of answering surveys for a website, instead of an actual merchandise trade, then you will generally be getting point-based gifts, instead of cash or other merchandise prizes. One of the reasons why paid surveys are referred to as a side hustle, is because of the nature of the interaction that takes place between survey companies, survey takers, and the individuals who fill out the surveys. For this reason, many individuals feel as though taking surveys is just a job, but not one that should be taken lightly. Before you begin filling out surveys, you should be certain that you are engaging in a legitimate business that will not cause you undue financial hardship.
